About the object
On the left glows the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024); its dark dust lanes resemble burning wood, and its gas is lit by young stars hidden in the dust. The bright star beside it is Alnitak. On the right, the Horsehead rises from the red band of IC 434 – the whole scene lies about 1,400 light years away.
