About the object
The Horsehead (Barnard 33) is a dense cloud of dust in Orion, about 1,400 light years away. We only see it because it blocks the light of the glowing nebula IC 434 behind it. The blue-white nebula near the bottom is the reflection nebula NGC 2023, lit by a young, hot star.
